THE KWAZULU-NATAL FILM COMMISSION LAUNCHES A UNIVERSITY ENDORSED SCRIPTWRITING TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR KZN YOUTH
The KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission has initiated the training of 25 previously disadvantaged youth from the province of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) on scriptwriting. The participants are coming from different areas of KZN including Durban, Vryheid, uMhlabuyalingana and Pietermaritzburg.
The University endorsed scriptwriting training programme commenced on Friday, 28 May in Durban and it is expected to run until Sunday, 10 October 2021. The ultimate objective of this training is to provide participants with both theoretical and practical training that will assist them to understand the film industry and ensure that it grows and thrives in the province.
Speaking about this training, the KZNFC Industry Development Manager Jacqueline Rainers
Said “The KZN Film Commission aims to enhance the economy by providing and encouraging opportunities for persons, especially from disadvantaged communities to enter and participate in the film industry in the province. This training is therefore part of our interventions to ensure that the film industry has a highly skilled individuals who are well equipped with relevant skills.”

The KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission is a provincial state entity, under the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA), in the Province of KwaZulu-Natal South Africa established in terms of the KwaZulu-Natal Commission Act, 2010 (Act No 3 of 2010). Its mandate is to facilitate support throughout the value chain to the local and international film industry through creating opportunities and also growing the KwaZulu-Natal film industry.
