HBO Announces Writing Fellowships

Good news for aspiring script writers in South Africa and beyond…

Leading network HBO has announced the launch of its brand new HBOAccess Writing Fellowship – a programme that aims to empower young, emerging writers from various backgrounds. Applications for the fellowship will be available for submission from 4 March 2015.

Part of the process will involve a week of master classes that will be attended by participants. These classes will give new writers an introduction to character development, script writing, idea and project pitches, agent securing as well as networking. From there, participants have the chance to begin a writing phase over the course of eight months. Writers will be paired with development executives from HBO, and given key guidance on developing their scripts. The programme will finish with a reception and staged reading hosted by HBO, where writers will network with industry professionals as they debut within the entertainment world.

Writers of 21 years and over are invited to apply to the HBOAccess Writing Fellowship providing that they are able to work within the United States, have not worked on a series for more than 13 episodes, and/or produced more than a single film or produced more than two plays. Submissions can be made online (see link below), and must include a CV, sample of writing, release form plus a motivation of 500 words or under on the writer’s background, story and life, and how it has impacted on the love for writing.
